Subject: OCTOBER DIVISION CAPTAIN’S BRIEFING To All, 1. Our next Division wide SAR Exercises is in its planning stage. Our last SAREX went very well. We had at least 1 Facility from each Flotilla with 1806 and 1808 with 2 Facilities. This was not only for training but for fellowship. Search Patterns will be the focus of our SAREX. I would like to thank all of you for your cooperation. 2. We need to put a push on getting new Radio Facilities. During the last few years, we have been losing a few Radio Facilities per year. The last new facility was about 4 years ago. 3. Still on our agenda are the Personnel Service workshop, Sexual Harassment Prevention, and an Air and Sea Team Coordination workshop. New workshops are being added to the list on a regular basis. No dates have been set yet. Remember, that none of these workshops are required. They serve 2 purposes; education and fellowship. 4. A new workshop will be held next year; the topic is New / Old Staff Officer Training. 5. Courtesy is paramount in our division. Please make every effort to be courteous to your fellow member. Treat members as you would like to be treated. 6. Our Division Change of Watch will be sooner then you think. The NCO Club at the Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach for our Division Change of Watch has been reserved. The date has been set for Sunday, 14 December. We will finalize all the details at our next Division Meeting, Thursday, 20 November. 7. The District Awards Conference will be held at the Mystic Marriott this year on 5, 6 and 7 March. Saturday, 6 March is the big day filled with workshops, the Group Commanders Luncheon and at night the District Banquette. The District store will be open all day long. On Sunday, 7 March you may want to attend the District Board and Staff Meeting. Keep an eye on the District Website for details. I will forward any information I receive. Reserve early, you can make your reservations by calling the toll free number 1-800-228-9290 and ask for the Auxiliary Conference Rate. Remember, you don’t need to stay overnight to benefit from the workshops, come up for the day. 8. I have appointed Bob Ettl as Chairman of the War Vets Project for Division 18. We would like for all Flotilla Commanders to appoint a representative from their Flotilla. 9. Greg Armstrong will be leaving us at the end of the year. Greg has served us well at both the Division and Flotilla levels. We all will miss him. When Greg leaves, Jim Edwardson will replace him as the Chairperson of the Aviation Committee. Jim is also our Division Photographer. 10. We were asked to participate in Brookhaven National Lab’s, Health, Fitness & Safety Fair on Wednesday, 22 October from 1100 to 1400. 11. An additional meeting of the Division Board and Staff will be held on Thursday, 20 November @ 1930 on the Mess Deck at Station Shinnecock. Regular business will be conducted with the emphasis on the Div COW and plans for the 2004 season. The uniform of the day will be Tropical Blue Long or appropriate civilian attire.
