APRIL DIVISION CAPTAIN'S BRIEFING To All, 1. Most Flotillas have been visited to give support for their members and their activities. Additional visits will continue through out the year along with some of the Division Staff. 2. During the Group Commanders Luncheon at the District Conference, Division 18 received 2 awards, Flotilla 18-3 received the Outstanding Flotilla Award and Henry Landis received the Auxiliarist of the Year Award. 3. We are looking for Commercial Fishing Vessel Examiners (CFVE) for our area. The pre-request are, 1. A current VE, 2. A current MDV and 3. Be physically able to do the job. 4. Jim Cornell is in training as OOD at Group Moriches. 5. Open House at Group Moriches has been set for Saturday, 17 May from 1200 to 1600. The Open House at Station Shinnecock is being planned with Station Montauk being looked into. 6. Station Shinnecock is looking for CPR Instructors, TCT Facilitators, Watchstander, Landscapers, Cooks and others. We might have one candidate for Radio Watchstander from Flotilla 18-3. 7. Division 18 has two new candidates for watchstander one from 18-2 for Station Montauk and one from 18-3 for Station Shinnecock. Additional watchstanders will be needed. The pre-request for radio watchstander is passing AUXCOM and good communications skills. 8. We have one boat in the water all year around and 2 Dry Suites. Training still needs to be completed. We have a few boats and crews that would be willing to do emergency winter patrol, if an emergency should arise. Training schedule so far includes, Jim Cornell, Kevin Osterbery, Al Scherback, Don Daniels, Phil Warner and Vincent Pica. 9. We have one member interested in becoming an interviewer on Long Island for the War Veterans Project. Carry Swift, FSO-CS 18-2. 10. Division 18 has recruited 2 pilots with their own aircraft, Hal Adkins and Jim Edwardson. They will start their training shortly with Flotilla 1-6. We have additional pilot prospects. 11. District Awards Conference - MS Workshop - Alan Goodman, SO-MS With the Auxiliary's Marine Safety/Environmental Protection programs becoming more active this year's MS seminar at the Awards Conference focused on what we can do to support the Coast Guard's "M" programs. There were discussions of the Trident Program which is based on the completion of courses, Personal Qualification Standards and hours accumulated in MS/EP missions. The Incident Command System and emergency response planning were presented with the intent of having each Division and Flotilla prepare an ERP. The afternoon was devoted to a hazardous materials briefing to familiarize Auxiliarists with types of materials they may encounter while on patrol. 13. This year the Operations Workshop will be required for all members involved in operations. Our Division has set a date of Thursday, 1 May, the place Hampton Bays Rec Center @ 1930. The uniform of the day will be "Working Blue" or appropriate civilian attire. Flotillas will be responsible for setting a date for a workshop for those who can't make it on this date. 14. At our Division Meeting, 5 June meeting, Flotilla 18-3 will be responsible for refreshments. It will give us a chance to visit the rest room without interrupting the meeting and give us a chance to stretch our legs and take care of other business.
