Division 18 1. This year, the Operations Workshop will be required for all members involved in operations. Our Division has set a date of Thursday, 1 May, the place Hampton Bays Rec Center @ 1930. The uniform of the day will be "Working Blue" or appropriate civilian attire. Flotillas will be responsible for setting a date for a workshop for those who can't make it on this date. 2. Our first issue of the CLAMDIGGER II has been sent out. I hope every one enjoyed it. Articles are still needed for our next issue. Van Field has been appointed as Joe's assistant. As we go forward, methods and procedures will be refined. A few hard copies will be sent out to each FC for distribution for those that do not have email. 3. Most of our SO's now have assistances and are working together to improve communications. If you are interested in serving as an assistant, please contact me. 4. Division 18 has recruited 2 pilots with their own aircraft. As soon as they get BQ'd, they will start their training process. 5. Greg Armstrong has been selected to head up the Aviation Committee. This goes into effect immediately. Greg's responsibility will be to guide new pilots in their training and will report directly to me. 6. District planned projects, Medical Team - We have one Volunteer, Debbie Cornell, IPFC 18-6, SO-VE. Her resume has been sent to Charlie Sferra, VCO, and forwarded to the appropriate party for consideration. Help at the Coast Guard Academy - Greg Armstrong, SO-FN has been volunteering his time at the academy. All has been going well. Fleet Week 17 May - 26 May - Looking for volunteers 7. Division 18 has one potential new candidate for watchstander that will be trained at C G Station Montauk. We are looking for volunteers to serve as watchstanders at Station Shinnecock and Station Montauk. 8. Henry Landis, SO-CC, recently had a Heart Attack and Kidney Stones, but is home and doing well. He has already contacted Station Shinnecock to schedule days as a watchstander. 9. We have one boat in the water all year around and 2 Dry Suites. Training still needs to be completed. We have a few boats and crews that would be willing to do emergency winter patrol, if an emergency should arise. 10. I met with CWO Tom Young on Monday, 24 to review some of the stations needs for 2003. 10.1. Dry suit Training/Qualification will be approximately the second week in March. 10.2. Station Shinnecock will have an Open House. No date has been set yet. We might combine the Open House with the Grand Re-Opening of the main building to make this event an even bigger event. 10.3. We talked about possible job opportunities at STA SK. Watchstander, Landscapers, Cooks and others. 10.4. People trained in the use of RDF equipment, 10.5. Station Shinnecock is looking for TCT Facilitators and certified First Aid/CPR Instructors. 11. Open House at Group Moriches is being planned. A tentative date of Saturday, 17 May has been set. A meeting With LT (JG) Marc Sennick has been set for Thursday, 6 March to discuss the details. 12. An Open House at Station Montauk is being looked into. 13. Our next Division and Staff meeting will be held on Thursday, 3 April at Station Shinnecock @ 1930. This is open to all members and all are welcome. Get information first hand. 14. At our Division Meeting, April 3 meeting, next month Flotilla 18-2 will be responsible refreshments. It will give us a chance to stretch our legs and take care of other business. JAMES H. CORNELL JR.
